I Scream, You Scream, We All Scream.
I'm borrowing this one from a recent Discussion Forum post,From James.Trexen, "I was just looking through the expected decibel levels that are being proposed for the Disneyland Forward project and it reminded me of the test scream speakers Universal used for the new Fast and Furious coaster. And that got me to realize that I am not a screamer on rides. Even on a B&M hyper or walking through a haunted house, I stay silent the whole time.
So show of hands. Are you someone who shows off their vocal pipes, or do you keep it to yourself?"
That's a great question that I do not believe that I have put up for a vote before, so let's do it now. The OP is referring to a couple of recent news items, in case you missed those:
While I always appreciate the views, you don't need to have read those posts to jump into this debate. Ultimately, I try to take a "you do you" attitude toward fellow park-goers, but I do appreciate when I have a rider next to me who isn't screaming in my ear before the ride gets loud enough that I don't notice it.
And please don't get me started on the swearers. Screaming is one thing, but does anyone really need to swear up a storm, on a roller coaster? That said, if the swearing is directed at a friend or loved one who talked the swearer into going on the ride, that's often high comedy. So maybe that gets a pass.
Anyway, I would love to hear what you do, and think, either below or in the original discussion thread.

Well, I guess you all know how I voted. :)
Screaming releases endorphins and adrenaline which is going to give you a bigger high while riding the coaster. Plus there's also the effect of tightening the head and neck muscles and possibly the core muscles like a judo master making a strike, and it could help protect you from neck and back injuries.
My physical therapist told me to yell on thrill rides. It releases tension and stress; two things that are not good for the body. It also helps with my motion sickness.
I really don't get why people scream on roller coasters. It strikes me as so very, very unnecessary. So someone mentioned releasing tension and stress. I get that from riding a roller coaster without screaming and getting hoarse.
I'm not a screamer, but I do vocalize a bit. It mostly consists of expressions beginning with w.
i also don't necessarily scream but tend to get very vocal. velocicoaster definitely gets me going. also, i am a big Robb Alvey fan so i do a lot of his "wheeeee"s and such.
Screaming is fun, no problem there.
However, since you asked, there is a dude on instagram who (must be independently wealthy and) constantly visits theme parks with his family, posting videos of them on coasters and rides from all over the world. This dude--and I'm not making this up--says "WHEEEEE!" on roller coasters, like he's four years old, it's got to be the most annoying thing I've ever heard, haha, at this point I follow him just to cringe.
@thecolonel that sounds like Robb Alvey of Theme Park Review who i mentioned...he isn't for everyone and has his haters but I love him and think his videos are the best out there. plus, i believe there is a ton of snark in his commentary and it's very tongue and cheek. I have followed him for years on YouTube.
That's him! His videos are great, his wife (or girlfriend?) seems like a super fun person, and he typically has great commentary. But I've considered offering him $50 to stop saying WHEEEEE it's just the most irritating thing ever, haha
@thecolonel, i think he does several versions of his videos with him doing a silent pov and then another with the wheeees! and his commentary. my favorite of his lines is "it's twisty!" and i love his painful "oh's" on rough coasters. his steel dragon video has him shouting "big japanese helix!" i love the guy...AND he finds and rides some very obscure and very sketchy rides so we don't have to :)

I used to never scream on coasters - until years ago, when I went to a theme park with a group of friends. After riding a coaster, someone in our group asked me why I didn't scream. I never thought of it. So he told it's more fun if you scream, try it. So I screamed my loudest on the next coaster. Turns out he was right. Coasters are more fun when you scream (or yell).
