SeaWorld Orlando today announced that it's going in the opposite direction and expanding its calendar.
Walt Disney World and Universal Orlando have been reducing operating hours at some of their parks in preparation for the fall. ButSeaWorld Orlando and its sibling water park, Aquatica Orlando, will now be open seven days a week, through October 5. The parks had been closed on select days each week since reopening earlier this summer. In addition, SeaWorld is now open until 10pm on Fridays through Sundays for the next two weekends, and its Craft Beer Festival is expanding to Fridays through September 30.
Central Florida's theme parks typically scale back their calendars at the end of the summer vacation season, as tourists head home for the season. But that summer vacation season never materialized this year, as the pandemic closed international borders and kept most domestic theme park fans at home.
But SeaWorld over the past few years as staked itself as the "local's park" in Central Florida, allowing it minimize its losses as area parks have had to rely primarily upon visitors from the Orlando area this summer. Today's schedule change reaffirms that SeaWorld is trying hard to remain the top choice for many locals. In addition to low-priced ticket deals, SeaWorld is offering several special events, including the Craft Beer Festival, Electric Ocean Remix, and a Flicks and Fireworks drive-in movie event.
After October 5, SeaWorld Orlando again will be closed on Tuesdays and Thursdays.
