Mickey's Philharmagic has endured as one of Walt Disney World fans' favorite attractions over the years. Despite the title, this 4D movie is more Donald's show, as Disney's leading duck serves as the catalyst for a musical review of many of Disney's top animated hits.
Over the years, Disney has brought the show to Hong Kong Disneyland, Tokyo Disneyland, and most recently, Disneyland Paris. And now, it's coming to Hollywood Land at Disney California Adventure.
The show will take residence in the Sunset Showcase Theater that's recently shown extended previews of upcoming Disney films. Before that, it was the California home of the Muppets 4D show, with a brief interlude running the Frozen sing-a-long.
But if the Disneyland Resort installation of Mickey's Philharmagic is as popular in California as it has been in Disney's other theme park resorts, it should keep the theater busy for quite some time to come.
TweetFinally! I've been wanting this to come to California for the longest time!
I always thought this would've been the obvious choice when Muppets closed.....but glad to see it's finally headed to the DLR.
Thanks. Fixed the Disneyland Paris reference. (I was working on the Marvel Hong Kong story at the same time, which includes a new land at WDSP, so I just jumbled my Paris parks. Sorry.)
That's a pity. I always saw it as a perfect addition to Toontown. Put a neat show like that in a Toontown concert hall and you'd have all the more reason to head back there.
Maybe Mickey's runaway railroad will make it.
I wonder how long they'll keep PhilHarmagic there. I have a hard time imagining this show without the widescreen. Maybe Disney should upgrade this show a bit. The CG is beginning to show it's age quite a bit, specifically Donald and Mickey. They look marginally better than they did in Twice Upon a Christmas....and that's not a compliment.
Amazed it's taken so long, a terrific show.
Jeffrey, I completely agree about the animation needing some TLC. The projection is so grainy that you'd swear it was a product of the 90s. I also agree that if the CA version doesn't feature the giant wrap around screen, the disappearing golden arch, or the animatronic Donald at the end, it will feel inferior like the one in Paris.
I agree with all of the above. This is a great first time 3-D attraction for small kids as there are fewer fright gags and more fun things to reach out for and feel/smell. I just can't imagine it without the wide screen and the disappearing and then reappearing proscenium and most obviously the duck butt in back. Truth be told, I'd really prefer a return of Muppet Vision. Ho-hum.
Any word on if they are doing a serious renovation to the old theater at DCA to accommodate the panoramic screen for Philharmagic?

The Paris version is in Disneyland Park, not Walt Disney Studios Park
