Are you excited for the opening of Disney's Star Wars: Galaxy's Edge lands? Even if you are a lifelong Star Wars fans, you might not be as excited to be there for the opening as some Disneyland cast members.
Getting on a new attraction's opening crew is a honor for theme park employees, as competition to be one of the people to introduce a new ride or show to fans can be intense. Disneyland sent along a fun video showing a few cast members' reactions when they learned that they would be "going to Batuu" as part of the opening team for Disneyland's Galaxy's Edge, which opens on May 31.
As many Theme Park Insider readers know, I worked at Walt Disney World's Magic Kingdom for five summers. Disney didn't open any attractions during my time, but it did start construction on Splash Mountain. And as soon as the company announced plans for the new ride, my co-workers were angling for a place on that opening crew. Nothing's changed for cast members over the years. Who wouldn't want to be among the first how to run a new ride, especially one as technically creative and culturally iconic as the Millennium Falcon: Smugglers Run attraction that will open with Galaxy's Edge?
Congratulations to the opening team going to Batuu. And we're looking forward to seeing you in your new home soon.
TweetAh, being on the opening crew of Splash Mountain was probably the best time I ever had working at MK.

Everything, everything, everything begins with the cast members. I don't envy these amazing young people and the crowd challenges that they will face. But I'm hopeful (and confident) that the enthusiasm shown here will carry forward and ensure that the SWGE experience will be unlike anything the themed entertainment industry has ever witnessed.
