One of the bigger selling points of a Walt Disney World vacation is the opportunity to spend time with beloved characters from movies, books, and TV. But what if you're not satisfied with selfies and instead want to become one of your favorite characters, instead? Well, Disney can hook you up with that, too.
Disney today inroduced a couple of new experiences that allow kids to become pirates or mermaids in active adventures at the resort's hotels. Sure, you can continue to get a photo with Ariel in the Magic Kingdom, but if you really feel like a mermaid, for $50 plus tax you can get fitted with a mermaid tail and learn to swim with it in the pools at the Disney's Art of Animation Resort, Disney's Caribbean Beach Resort, and Disney's Yacht and Beach Club Resorts. The "Mermaid School" classes last one hour and are open to guests ages four and older. Mermaid School opens later this month but reservations are available now by calling +1-407-WDW-PLAY.
But if I were a kid again, I'd be begging for a place on Captain Hook's Pirate Crew. This adventure takes place at Disney's Beach Club Resort and costs $55 per person, plus tax. But it sounds like a grand time for a kid, with a guided group treasure hunt around the resort including a pontoon ride on Crescent Lake. Ultimately, kids get to dig up a treasure chest then get a lunch with mac and cheese and meatballs in marinara, along with a "treasure chest treat" for dessert. The adventure starts April 28 and will be open to kids ages four through 12. Reservations are available now via +1-407-824-KIDS.
Disney is also introducing some new active experiences for teens and adults. The resort will offer painting classes at several hotels, led by professional artists. Classes will be offered for ages 12 and up at Disney's Animal Kingdom Lodge, Disney's BoardWalk Inn, Disney's Saratoga Springs Resort & Spa, and Disney's Yacht and Beach Club Resorts, with classes available to adults and kids ages six and older at Disney’s Port Orleans – French Quarter Resort. Prices range from $30 to $50 and reservations can be made through +1-407-WDW-PLAY.
Other new upsell options available include bass fishing as well as new cabanas at Disney's Yacht and Beach Club Resorts. The cabanas are available only to guests at those hotels, but the fishing excursions are available to all. Call +1-407-WDW-BASS for pricing and availability.
