The recently closed Earl of Sandwich location at Disneyland's Downtown Disney will reopen on Monday, the restaurant has announced on Facebook.
The popular quick service sandwich shop closed along with several other retailers last spring, as Disney prepared to clear much of the western end of Downtown Disney to make way for a planned luxury hotel — the fourth on-site hotel at the Disneyland Resort.
But when that plan stalled in a political battle with the City of Anaheim over tax breaks, Disney decided to bring back Earl of Sandwich... at least on a temporary basis until it straightens out what will happen with the hotel development.
I wrote for the Orange County Register this month that Disneyland needs more eateries like Earl of Sandwich [archive link], places where fans can get reasonably priced meals without feeling like they're settling for a cut-rate version of a better product.
Disney has been redeveloping much of Downtown Disney, separate from the hotel project, so fans will be getting several more eateries debuting in the shopping district over the next months. But for now, it's nice to see the Earl back in the mix.
Within Downtown Disney, that's just about the best deal available.

I dont really get what is so great about Earl of Sandwich. I have one a few blocks from my office in Rockerfeller Center. They are small sandwiches that cost $8.
