Universal Studios Hollywood officially announced today that the end is near for its classic dinosaur flume adventure, Jurassic Park - The Ride.
But as Hollywood long has kept alive the dinosaurs beyond the extinction moment when that meteor crashed into what is now the Gulf of Mexico, Hollywood will give Universal's dinosaur ride new life next year, as the Jurassic World Ride.
Jurassic Park - The Ride will close on September 3 this year and the Jurassic World retheme will open sometime next year. Here's the promo video from the park. Hype will find a way.
The new Jurassic World ride will bring an enhanced story, an even more lush scenic design and new technology to the flume ride. And, of yes, lots of new dinosaurs, too.
What could possibly go wrong?
TweetHopefully, it means just more advanced AA of the dinos and not a lot of screen stuff. But it's long overdue for an enhancement and should still deliver that great long drop.
If the screens are used to ENHANCE the attraction, and not be the main attraction, then I'm for the use of screens. And of course, the AA should be refined to create more realistic movements. Overall, this is great news because it keeps a classic alive and gives it much needed attention.
If this is done well, it will be a great enhancement to a very good but somewhat dated ride. However, it it results in replacement of animatronics with screens, it may ruin the attractions. I'm a little surprised this wasn't done a little sooner, but hopefully it will be done well and will be good enough to justify a visit to the park.
cliched question coming up - but what about Orlando ?
They better not be adding screens with 3D !
Please do this in Orlando, Universal! And yes, I'm usually pro-screen ride, but this really needs to have animatronics.
Can they replace the horrible lap bar? The first dinosaur on the left is terrible. You can see the box stand it’s on. The effects don’t work 90 % of time. The sound is muffled. They need to get Chris Pratt animatronic in it.
Please don't replace the T Rex with that rediculous Indominous monster. It would be as bad as Disney replacing the Pirates auction scene with a yard sale.
A great ride, but one that has been begging for updates for a while. Can't wait!
It's a little more complicated of a situation in Florida. They don't only have a ride -- they have an entire island dedicated to Jurassic Park. This includes the beautiful and underrated Discovery Center from the original film. As we have all seen, in Jurassic World the Discovery Center is a distant memory, and in ruins.
How would this be handled at Islands of Adventure, then? One possibility is that it won't, and Jurassic World will be an anchor in the new park on the new land. This would leave the original Jurassic Park island intact, or create a huge zone for further expansion. Heck, it's right next to Hogsmeade, so they could make a very expanded HP land (Jurassic Park takes up a ton of land).
What do you think? Will the same conversion take place at IOA, or are we in for an even bigger treat in the form of a new Jurassic World land at a new unannounced location?
@ Daniel, I don't they'll necessarily replace the T Rex. Within the films (including the new ones) the T Rex is still prevalent....recently turning from villain to "hero" dino.
I'm guessing that the Indominus Rex or whatever the latest hybrid antagonist might be included, but not at the expense of the T Rex.
That's still the dino from the logo & the original bad boy in the Jurassic series. It's even included in the above promo, so I'm guessing he's sticking around.
The Indominus Rex is like the Kylo Ren to the T Rex's Vader.
There's so many things wrong with the current ride:
Ultrasaur barely works and the babies neck looks broken.
Last I went on the ride on of the stegos went missing and the hadrosaur that "bumps" your way off course lethargically comes out of the water.
The raptor pen looks empty the trees dont even move anymore and the broken electric fence effect has been decommissioned
We cant forget the infamous "falling" car that always makes a crashing sound even though it stays perched on the ledge or isn't even there!
The dilophosaurus that once sprang out at you and fully animated now look like slack jawed lizards the frills dont even open all the way.
The Raptors on the lift are in no better shape than the spitters. Nowadays the Raptors dont even come out anymore
It seems the only animatronics that work properly are the t rex ones.
Just give us working animatronics I dont mind a few screen effects.
I think this is coming to Orlando but, it will come with updates to the entire land and a new coaster as well. Probably a 2020 premier.
Hopefully they can get rid of all of the moldy old obviously mechanical dinosaurs and give us some high definition projections. That would make things much better.
And get rid of the water...don't you understand that California is in a drought?
it looks like a permit has been filed in orlando for demolition in JP at IOA.

Maybe Jurassic World is planned for the third gate in Orlando?

Sounds great. Hopefully, it delivers the goods on what was already a great ride.
