Chef Art Smith is bringing "Homecoming: Florida Kitchen and Southern Shine" to the former Downtown Disney next summer. Smith, a James Beard Award winner for his cookbook Back to the Table: The Reunion of Food and Family, is a Florida native who has served as chef for two Florida governors as well as personal chef for Oprah Winfrey, in addition to appearing on multiple cooking shows, including Iron Chef America. He's also a graduate of the Walt Disney World College Program.
The menu at Homecoming will focus on southern cuisine, with special attention paid to dishes well known and beloved in Smith's native northern Florida. Items will include pork chops with sawmill gravy, shrimp and grits, deviled eggs, and homemade pimento cheese.
"The menu is a big part of my ongoing homage to Florida's bygone era," Smith said in a statement released by Disney. "The vast majority of our seafood, produce, poultry and beef will be from local farms, ranches or fisheries."
Homecoming brings another celebrity-chef restaurant to Disney Springs, joining the recently opened Morimoto Asia and the enduring Wolfgang Puck Grand Cafe.
