September 16, 2013 at 1:53 AM · I have a serious question: is there any danger in posting photos of actual magic bands online? I am always so scared of identity theft. Can a thief somehow get access to my account by seeing a picture of a magic band? My DS12 is starting to get into the phase of posting things to his Facebook, and I am scared that he is going to take a picture of a magic band and it will have a code printed on it or something.

I have not seen a magic band up close yet. Is there anything on it that someone can see in a picture that would allow thieves to access an account?

Very little to worry about with a picture. There is an ID code on the inside of the band. However even if someone did get a photo of the ID number they would still need access to internal Disney systems and databases to get any sort of personal info. From the outside they are fairly plain.

September 16, 2013 at 5:58 AM · Annette, the worst case scenario is that someone would clone your band. My top worry about this is the ability for someone to gain access to your hotel room using a cloned band. They would have to know what resort and what room you are in to pull that off however.

However your credit card and/or meal plan can only be charged using a PIN and your ticket to the park can only be used with your fingerprint.

That said, i'd be more concerted with someone using a long range RF scanner to get your ID than with someone using the number on the back of the band to clone it.
