Universal Studios Florida is getting a new attraction: Jimmy Neutron to close

March 14, 2011, 8:34 AM · This morning, Universal Orlando Resort announced on its Facebook page that they will be closing down Jimmy Neutron's Nicktoon Blast.

These news don't come as a surprise as the contract between Universal Orlando and Nickelodeon is drawing to an end. Now the discussion is on of what the "all new experience based on an amazing concept" will be. Could it be a Despicable Me or a Madagascar themed attraction? In addition what are the "many" other "exciting things planned for the next couple of years" at Universal?

Jimmy Neutron goes to seasonal operation on April 1 closes permanently on August 18.

March 14, 2011 at 9:47 AM · Best news I've read all day! Never cared for that ride, but also don't have kids. So...whatever they put in place can't be any worse than Jimmy!
March 14, 2011 at 9:47 AM · I've only been on this attraction 2 or 3 times and found it to be one of the most uncomfortable theme park experiences. The moving and shaking was worse than any other ride at Universal Orlando I have been on. I always wondered if people really liked this ride or just did it to maximize their ticket cost. IMO just about anything would be a better attraction as long as they change the seats.
March 14, 2011 at 10:51 AM · Remember that the Jimmy Neutron ride was always just a re-working of the motion simulator Hanna-Barbera ride. It's possible they're just going to do the same thing again with a more up to date franchise. I don't know that there is enough room in that spot to put in a major dark ride.
March 14, 2011 at 12:39 PM · Hmm that is more space than you think. Also, more room behind it. I'm going to throw an idea out....Transformers to Orlando? Universal Studios needs something to keep its appeal. Ageing rides and sub par attendance compared to IOA. The crowds from there are what's keeping people at the original US. With two parks compared to Disney's 4 plus the water parks, Universal has to stay current. Jaws, mib, hate to say this E.T., Terminator and the worst twister are past due IMO. Anyone else feel the same?!
March 14, 2011 at 1:23 PM · I strongly disagree about MIB. I love it and go through dozens of times every time I'm at Universal. I mildly enjoyed Jimmy Neutron, but will not much miss it. Based on what they said in their release, I expect something totally new.
March 14, 2011 at 2:30 PM · Jimmy isn't very relevant anymore. All the kids that watched this on tv are now in high school and refuse to go on this ride. I didnt mind it but it was a do it once and done. I would love to see it completely redone into a non motion simulator ride. These rides can only accommodate a very small range of people and tend to make people sick... Thus "I tried it and never again". Universal Studios needs a good dark ride to bring it's umph back.

And no, I don't think MIB is irrelevant and outdated. If you look around to the people who go to Universal Studios you will see that its a lot of older kids and adults that remember all of this stuff. Universal is supposed to be the "classic" side of this park and while lots of rides do need a lot of attention, they need to stay the way they are.

March 14, 2011 at 2:31 PM · I love the jimmy neutron ride, its my nieces favourite. So glad that i got to ride it then just last month (14/feb),as when we go again it will be gone =(
March 14, 2011 at 6:01 PM · I enjoyed this attraction back in 2007 when I last visited USF. However, its time has come and gone, and a suitable replacement would be welcomed. I don't know how much space the park has to expand for the replacement attraction, but with Universal's recent track record it is hard to image the new experience will be anything less than stellar!
March 14, 2011 at 9:43 PM · I don't see MIB going anywhere soon considering they are making the third installment of the films and I doubt Universal would remove this popular ride. MIB is still one of the best, well ok, one of three shoot'em up dark rides in Orlando (did I get that count right?). I personally still enjoy going on the ride and haven't gotten bored of it yet.
March 15, 2011 at 6:31 AM · Goodbye Jimmy. Rode it 13 times with my son a few years ago. Llama...llama....llama
