is Busch gardens planning something ?

Kumbas extended bouts of downtime and the River Rapids' closure, which has lasted a few years, might suggest that Busch Gardens has plans for this area of the park. Is it just refurbishment, or could we get an overhaul of the whole land?

When BGT announced the removal of Scorpion, there were thoughts that the space made available there would serve as a takeoff point for a larger coaster that would run across the back of the park that has long been rumored (and surveyed). It's very possible that any project that takes that route might result in the removal or modification of Kumba and/or Congo River Rapids. Personally, I think it's telling that they have not made any announcements following the closure of Scorpion, and I've always found the locations of Congo River Rapids a bit problematic on a bit of a dead end and down long, winding paths.

I do think that parks in Florida are obligated to have good water rides, so it's very possible that Congo River Rapids, a very dated raft attraction, could be replaced with a more modern ride like Infinity Falls, and Kumba, being near the end of its service life, could finally give way in a massive project that not only see the installation of a new water attraction, but also a coaster.

I'm sure there are tons of options given the amount of space that would be available by linking the Congo, Kumba, and Scorpion plots.

Last time I was back by Kumba's station (I don't ride it anymore) it seemed like they were trying to preserve cycles, with the train sitting in the station several minutes before opening the air gates for the next riders to board. It was running 1 train.

I think its at the end of its serviceable life and they are likely keeping it running on fumes. It makes perfect sense to remove it IMO. It has zero popularity nowadays, that area is pretty much always dead, and all you ever hear about it now from the GP is that its too rough. It seems to be even less popular now than many other big iconic coasters that got rough/unpopular and were removed over the years. TBH I feel like Busch is doing Kumba dirty by keeping it around so long, to us old folks its the iconic megalooper that put B&M and BGT on the map...but now there are generations of visitors that only know it as a rough ride they never want to go on.

On the topic of Scorpion, its still just sitting there fully assembled and SBNO. So regardless if that has anything to do with a Kumba project, its safe to say that at this point they just wanted its operating cost off the books.

If it were up to me, and it is most assuredly not, I would remove Kumba. Yes, it has a cult fanbase, and yes, I'm part of that fanbase, but it has gotten a little rougher recently and suffers frequent downtime. I would replace it with a brand new B&M mega looper to kickstart a brand new land. We could name the ride Kumba:Reborn or something and revitalize the river rapids.

If there's an overhaul of the Congo section of the park, I don't think it will involve Scorpion. Scorpion was old anyway and is in an almost completely different are of the park. If I were a betting man I'd say that it's soon to be replaced with a flat ride. I would attribute the lack of an announcement to the fact that their 2025 expansion is Wild Oasis and they announced that around the time that Scorpion closed. They're waiting on an announcement to replace Scorpion, but it won't involve Congo.

Also, I did see Kumba running with two trains one day like a month ago. It was probably a once-in-a-blue-moon type of situation, but interesting to mention nonetheless.
