I know there is a rights issue with Universal. I'm just curious if anyone here has more direct info on what they "can" do? I know Guardians of course, and then I remember Dr Strange appeared as a character, but what are the rules? Are they clearly defined?
Mainly asking cause I feel like Hollywood Studios would be suited for a land, but didn't know if there might be a way to have one even with the rights issue. Perhaps a Wakanda area or something?
Ha! Make's sense. Not really any reason for Universal to sell it.
As a Florida Resident it is a bit of a bummer though. I hate that that IP is basically just going to be stagnant over here unless something changes. Even though right now I think Marvel Superhero Island is better than Avengers Campus (pending the new rides coming in there).
Marvel Superhero IS much better than Avengers Campus!! That's pretty much a general consensus, but its also not surprising why.
Superhero Island was a fully thought out themed land...with some topi tier attractions, that was designed before IOA even opened. (Fun fact, originally it was was meant to be DC Comics)
Avengers Campus (in its current form) is a repurposed area of DCA. It was a (quick) way to incorporate the MCU in DLR, so its smaller...shoehorned into an area, with limited space, so it was never going to be able to compete in it its current form.
Once it gains more space, with the new attractions added...it will feel more like a fully realized area.
@JayR Agreed! This was mostly wishful thinking cause I would love for them to attempt an original design of a Marvel land at Hollywood Studios. That park needs more stuff and the idea of a Wakanda area could be really cool. Add some needed green and water to the park too. But, alas, probably not gonna happen.
Spiderman at IoA is one of my all time favorite rides though!
A better question would be "What can be done with Marvel at the Orlando Comcast parks?" The current attractions have been hanging around for almost a quarter of a century. Comcast must be busy reviewing plans for the attractions going into Lost Continent ... Or the Toon Lagoon theater ... or the Fear Factor Theater.
(Yawn)
Oh I agree. That's part of my frustration. The Marvel IP just seems frozen on the east coast.
Not much, and it makes the Pixie Dusters a bit angry, apparently. When you end a post with "(Yawn)", you know someone is getting under their skin. I'm just glad instead of using the Marvel IP they paid a fortune for, and can't use, Disney is building a new ride based on a movie that came out in 2001. Exactly 2 years after Islands of Adventure opened...
Rent free, per usual. (Yawn)
HULK SMASH..
Disney would probably retheme Tea cups as Spiderman spinney Web ride...
hahahahahahahaha
Just like universal did with Storm?
The reason the original Avengers movies worked so well is because the creators loved the comics and incorporated those ideas into the movies. It's not a stretch to say that Super Hero Island worked so well because it was all comic inspired - the cutout superheroes, the city street inspired buildings, etc. The new Marvel land reads like an industrial park.
Maybe they could have a LARPing experience in the old Galactic Starcruiser hotel. (chuckle)
If it's not represented at Islands of Adventure, it's fair game. But a lot is represented there, including Black Panther - I believe, so that limits Disney's options.
Bob Chapek made multiple offers to get Universal to sell the Marvel rights to Disney, but simply was given directions to Sand Lake with an invitation to jump in it.
