Hurricane Milton Updates

Edited: October 9, 2024, 6:26 AM

Wednesday, October 9th - 3:32 AM - Our home sits about 1-2 miles north of I-4 at ChampionsGate. We are walking distance from the Omni Resort and about five miles as the crow flies from the western edge of Walt Disney World's property. If the storm follows its predicted track, the eye will pass right over us.

Currently there is a light rain and little or no wind. I have two CMs in our family who will be leaving for work around 530 AM. They will both be back home around noon.

By my estimate the next 30 to 36 hours will be intense.

Wednesday, October 9th - Noon - Rain stopped. Gray skies. CM #1 is home. She reports there were probably more glCMs than there were guests at DAK. Approximately 24 hours left until the storm will have passed us.

Wednesday, October 9th - 6:10 PM - The track seemed to be floating south for awhile. But now it is moving back towards the I-4 corridor. Currently quiet outside. Tonight may (emphasis on "may") get a little nuts. 18 hours left until the storm will have passed us.

Great stuff TH. Stay safe and thanks for keeping us updated!

How much damage is being done? Is everyone (you know in the area) safe?

Thursday, October 10th - 2:45 AM - Woke up. The power is out. Wind is still heavy. Utilities will likely be out for awhile -- although that will probably be measured in hours and not days. Our fence in the backyard and (surprisingly) our pool screens are intact. We have around eight hours left, before the storm passes us.

Thursday, October 10th - 4:03 AM - We appear to be experiencing the west side of the storm. There are around 3-1/2 hours until first light. The wind and rain remain relentless. Very noisy outside. No signs of water intrusion anywhere in the house. We have seven hours left, before the storm passes us.

Thursday, October 10th - 5:09 AM - Everything suddenlygot really quiet Eye of the storm? We have around six or seven hours left, before Milton passes us.

Thursday, October 10th - 6:00 AM - The worst seems to be over. It's quiet enough that I went outside and took a walk around the house. It's breezy -- but the wind isn't anything like it was two hours ago. Light rain and very dark clouds. Still no power. About four or five hours to go.

Thanks for the updates. Hope you are all safe. It's Friday 11th Oct 12:20 pm here in the UK and we're hearing that the storm is calming or moving on. Don't know if that's correct. So much property damage and , sadly, lives lost.
Keep us all posted if & when you can.
