Is Disney waiting for Universal to get rid of their Marvel land?

If they want to do anything in Florida, yes. The terms of the deal with Universal stated that they had the rights to the characters "east of the Mississippi" as far as attractions go. Or at least that's what was reported back when Disney bought Marvel.

EDIT - TH is correct, I believe. The rights in question may consist solely of the particular characters that Universal utilized in Marvel Superhero Island. I don't know if that would include characters explicitly used in attractions (Hulk, Storm, Dr. Doom, and Spider-Man) or if it would involve their overall franchises (essentially knocking out X-Men and the Fantastic Four, er, Three). But they also have all those dang murals with nearly every major character in them, and who knows where the rights on those characters end up.

Bottom line - nobody knows for sure. If I was Universal, I'd sit on those properties for as long as humanly possible.

Not sure if it was the rights to ALL of the Marvel characters or selected Marvel characters (East of the Mississippi).

Seems like the only place they'd fit in Florida would be DHS (New York Street)

Their is a project to build a Marvel theme park in Dubai. Check out the following concept art:

It looks awesome!

With the cancellation of so many of the Dubai projects and the lack of any construction reports on any of the theme park web sites, I would guess this to still be in the blue sky stage. If it is ever to be built, it will probably have to undergo major changes what with the change in Marvel ownership. While Disney is fine with licensing its characters for products, they seem far less inclined to do so when they need those characters for their own parks. I suspect that Disney has got major long-range plans for the Marvel heroes, and I doubt that those plans include nouveau-riche Dubai...
