Universal Orlando: what do you think?

From Rob Chandler

I think that universal in orlando needs a new ride for 2011 to keep up with its brother park islands after the harry potterland atraction is built there, and i dont think it has much space left so heres my proposition: get rid of its worse ride which i think is twister personally and replace it with transformers the same ride they are building in california's studios park.

what do you think?

Not bad, but I think Universal will cool off a bit after Harry Potter. Its a big investment!

One rumor that was being thrown around was that Spiderman will be replaced by Transformers (same technology). I really don't believe that rumor since Spiderman is gold for IOA

I'd get rid of Fear Factor - LIVE! Twister is not bad. I kind of like it. But then I only get to visit once every couple of years. =(

I agree that TRansformers should come in, but what about if they replaced Jurassic Park with the new one they're building in USS. I know tht this would really increase IOA's standing, but that JP looks AMAZING!

The Twister show building is much too small to contain the scope of the Transformers ride that is taking up the soundstages for both Backdraft and the Effects show in Hollywood.

However, there is actually quite a large parcel of land still left at USO between MIB and The Simpsons. If you have ever been to Halloween Horror Nights, you will have seen it when you go to either of the houses contained in the Sprung tents.

Two medium attractions or one large ride can be easily built on that space.

Personally, I like the idea of Transformers being exclusive to USH. The same way that I look forward to MIB when I visit Florida.

If it was up to me, I would create a large car chase ride based on the Bourne films in that area.

If the Transformers ride is a 4D sim like Spiderman, there's really no need for it to be in Florida (unless there was a legal issue with Disney's ownership of the characters, but it sounds like that's not going to be a concern).

But this Bourne idea...it's got legs. There's huge potential there. Either that or Fast and the Furious would make an excellent automotive themed attraction (not a fan of F and F, but you gotta keep all the options open).

Did you guys every think that because Disney has Marvel rights and will most likely try to damage Marvel Super Hero Island, Universal might retheme and turn Amazing Adventures of Spider-Man into Transformers: The Ride?

And as for the Twister sound stages, I think a 4D King Kong attraction would be cool where guests are seated in a nice theatre, the curtains open, and the whole scene from 2005 King Kong where Kong is put on display in New York and then lets loose all in 4D!

EDIT: And on the idea of the large area between Simpsons and MIB, what about the Battlestar Galactica (a clone) from Universal Singapore. The idea of a dueling family/thrilling coasters sound and look (you have got to see the latest videos) amazing!

From steve lee

They'd have to retheme the whole island as well, and that would be a massive undertaking. If Disney leaves them alone (and they honestly should unless they're interested in tons of negative press), I don't see them making any major changes for several years at least.

All this update stuff sounds great, but didn't Universal already announce that after Harry Potter was done they were going to spend some time (a couple years, maybe) gussying up their current (and somewhat neglected) line up of attractions?

From Michael Owen

I think you may see Spiderman getting a Transformers refurb, rather than the attraction going into USF.

At some stage Disney will want to use Marvel in their parks, and when that time comes they won't want Marvel over at Universal as they cannot control the quality of the attractions.

I'm sure that Universal and Disney will come to some sort of agreement over the removal of Marvel from IOA and I'm sure the area will be re-themed to fit other brands that involve action/superheroes which makes Transformers a perfect fit.

First, I would like to see Universal move forward with the Transformers ride in Hollywood. We have heard next to nothing since the ride was announced. Backdraft and special effects stages were supposed to close after this Summer to make way for Transformers, but remain open.

whats all this about disney taking marvel out of ioa surely its up to universal whether they want to take it out maybe disney could try and persuade them with money but at the end of the day ioa had it first, and i dont think they will ever retheme the spiderman ride to the transformers. spiderman is a classic and should not be touched

I'm a little hesitant about this whole Transformers ride, regardless of where it is. Being a decent fan, I would know that this seems like a cash-in with this transformers craze that seems to be going on. And if this plan does come into fruition, what would the riders be riding in? Transformers can't have people in them when they transform, they'll be crushed. And I know that I'm over analyzing this, but Optimus Primec would'nt want to have a group of civilians watching him fight the Decepticons, he would be afraid of them getting hurt or something. But all in all, this would probably be a fun ride, but rather silly in the eyes of a fan.

I tend to agree with Logan about the 'silly' factor. With that in mind, I present, for everyone's edification and (hopefully) amusement... A Transformer in Orlando!

i think that ,you are other analyzing it to be honest i mean come on optimus prime wouldnt want all the civillians watching come on man, its only a movie in the first place 60 million people would of been watching optimus prime within the first few days of it coming out at the cinema in actual fact i think that was a rather silly comment and that if you are a fan of transformers you should just enjoy a ride themed to it, am i ranting on, sorry but what sort of comment was that, look how many fans there are for spiderman i bet none of them were complaining when they rode the ride in islands of adventure, and im sure universal will not make many mistakes while making transformers they made the film did'nt they so they should be able to make a ride about it without the guests getting crushed or optimus prime getting ticked off because everyones watching him hahaha

(Universal didn't make the Transformers movie...)

From Rob Chandler

ok thats just nit picking isn't it i was more on about how he was saying they couldn't do it because optimus prime wouldnt want us to see and whatever i think that some people need to remeber that he is only a cgi effect and not a living robot its only a film, my general point is to remember that it was only a movie to begin with so whats the harm in turning it into a ride, the film was only a way to make money any way out of a toy franchize if im not mistaken, good films but why do people get so into them?

From Nick Markham

I like the idea. What they need to do is scrap all of the MArvel Super HEro Island theme to a futuristic theme and add Transformers in place of Amazing Adventures of Spider-Man and then theme anything else to a movie like Star trek or something. Then it will show no support for the Disney-owned Marvel Entertainment.

Get rid of Spiderman? Are you crazy???? Seriously????
That would be one dumb expensive move.
Rather rip out the theatre just up the path and put something there than take out the #1 theme park ride (As voted for on TPI)!

Gareth, I think the logic is based on if they have to get rid of the Marvel properties somewhere down the road.

By the way, Optimus Prime is a wuss. At the risk of dating myself, I quit reading the Transformers comic book when Optimus Prime and Megatron had their consciousnesses inserted into a virtual reality environment to fight it out. Their bodies were both rigged to explosives, and whichever one lost in the VR environment was going to be blown to bits. Optimus Prime managed to beat Megatron in the VR world, but when they came out of it he said he lost because in the course of defeating Megatron he accidentally caused harm to the inhabitants of the VR world.

So they blew up Optimus Prime.

That was a horrible, horrible comic book I just described. And it was still better than that last Transformers movie...

At some point down the road would be a very long time.
Try actually fitting any Marvel items into a Disney Park and actually think of how it would work right now.

Robots battling it out in Magic Kingdon? Nope.
Robots battling it out in Animal Kingdon? Nope.
Robots battling it out in Epcot? Nope
Robots battling it out in DHS?
Hmm, with a huge move around it may be possible, but would take many years to achieve, and in that time the money Disney would make money from Universal still hosting the Marvel super hero Island.

So realistically, honestly, in your heart of hearts, could you actually see it happening in the next 5-10 years? And in that time Disney may just sell it on, decide that Marvel isn't a good for its Princess's and Prince's themeing or other.

Transformers is a viable option, I know Universal Orlando is considering it, but I think it would be a Universal Studios addition, not IOA.
I believe that if it were to be installed in the Studios, it would be within the next 3 weeks (Completetion), which would include a year of construction.
So keep your ears open for an annountment around Spring, 2011.

From steve lee

Gareth, I think you confused yourself. You're making arguments about where at Disney Transformers would fit. I think you meant Marvel.

And Marvel properties could fit almost anywhere within the Disney parks (Epcot could be a stretch, but that's never seemed to stop them before).

From Gareth H

Steve, no. I was commenting on how Marvel would actually ft into Disney would they decide to take them onboard in the parks, and then how Transformers would fit into Universal at some point.

From Nick Markham

Gareth, eventually they are going to have to get rid of Spider-Man. It is unfortunate, but Disney knows everyone loves it, and they have the power to possibly take that away from Universal and then hopefully bring it to Disney.

I wouldn't mind too much if Spider-Man was moved to a Disney park. I would mind a great deal if they just forced Universal to dismantle the ride, out of petty spite.

In the big picture, it would not even be a smart move for Disney. First, it would create resentment, because for sure many Disney fans are also Universal theme park fans. Second, Spider-Man is a ride that draws people to Orlando, since it doesn't exist in any other Universal park.

In sum, most people who come to Orlando for Disney will also go to Universal -- and vice versa. This is a symbiotic relationship more than a competitive one.

^ Well, it does exist in Tokyo, but all of your other points are good.

I say take out freakin' Jimmy Neutron and put in Transformers, but then again, it might not fit in there....I'd go with putting it between MIB and Simpsons.

Universal wouldnt put the same ride system in a park twice.Think about it, why would they install Transformers if they already have Spider-Man.They could make TF into a roller coaster or a interactive show.
