Designing the Ultimate Orlando Theme Park

Kevin Baxter, who's apparently spending his time away from the site brushing up his creative writing skills, asks the Theme Park Insiders to build their ultimate Orlando theme park. Do it, or else face the wrath of Clarence Thomas!

From the Orlando Spintinel:

"The Supreme Court, feeling it has lost favor with the American public after the debacle that was the 2000 Presidential election, has handed down yet another controversial decision. The Court has declared competition in Florida to be un-Constitutional.

"To ensure that they will never have to mediate another election, the Court has mandated that all candidates must compete in a two-out-of-three match of Rock/Paper/Scissors. When asked whether R/P/S wasn't also a competition, Justice William Rehnquist explained, 'Shut up!'"

Later in the story...

"This competition-free Florida will greatly affect Orlando, the most visited city in America. No longer will tourists have seven theme parks to choose from. Instead, the affected companies - Disney, Universal and Busch - must choose 25 attractions from their rosters and combine them into one giant uncompetitive park. Busch's other central Florida park, Busch Gardens in Tampa, is considered far enough away to not be competitive.

"Work started almost immediately on the new park with Michael Eisner, CEO of Disney, taking charge. After an hour of heated negotiations, Mr. Eisner was locked out of the meeting room after demanding all four of Disney's Dumbo clones be included in the new park.

"After threatening to sue the Supreme Court for $10 million - or as Eisner put it, 'my hourly rate' - the Court added an amendment to the decision putting the task to registered voters instead.

"Palm Beach County immediately filed a lawsuit, which was promptly ignored by the Court. When asked whether this shouldn't be considered competition also, Justice Clarence Thomas whipped out a pistol, which signaled the end of the press conference. As usual."

I was able to get a listing of the new requirements for the competition-free park. They are as follows:

10 RIDES - Any ride that features some sort of motion to the vehicle where you sit - Examples: Peter Pan's Flight, Earthquake, Journey to Atlantis

5 LIVE SHOWS - These are shows that feature mostly human actors, animal actors or actors in costumes - Examples: Beauty and the Beast, Shamu Adventure, The Eighth Voyage of Sindbad

5 SPECIAL SHOWS OR WALKTHROUGHS - These mostly involve film, puppets, robots, special effects and the like or are exhibits of some sort - Examples: Twister, MuppetVision, Penguin Encounter

3 KIDDIE RIDES OR SHOWS - These would be any ride or show actually geared more to a younger audience - Examples: A Day in the Park with Barney, Playhouse Disney, The Many Adventures of Winnie the Pooh

2 KIDDIE PLAY AREAS - These are specific play areas for kids and not just lands where kiddie attractions are, like Fantasyland or Woody Woodpecker's KidZone - Examples: Fievel's Playland, Jurassic Park Discovery Center, Shamu's Happy Harbor

3 RESTAURANTS - These can be any restaurant as long as it is INSIDE a theme park, so Rainforest Cafe and the restaurants in Downtown Disney and CityWalk don't count - Examples: Enchanted Oak Tavern, Bimini Bay Cafe, Tony's Town Square

So get to work! And PLEASE don't comment just to comment. If you have a comment to make, make it a short one FOLLOWED by your list. Let's have fun!

Great article, Kevin. I like to see people who aren't afraid to hold a grudge!

But there are too many live shows and not enough stuff for kids with this break-down. So I've swapped one out to improve the balance. Selections are in alphabetical order.

(Of course, I am looking forward to Kevin's upcoming thread where California finally declares its independence from the Republican States of America, and decides to design its own "Ultimate Theme Park," so that the good people of California no longer need to spend their money to visit the Bush-controlled state of Florida.)

RIDES
The Great Movie Ride (on here for balance as the best available non-thrill ride. I'd pick Pirates of the Caribbean instead if I could have the Anaheim original.)
Haunted Mansion
Incredible Hulk
Kilimanjaro Safaris
Kraken
Men in Black
Popeye & Bluto's Bilge-Rat Barges
Spider-Man
Splash Mountain
Tower of Terror

LIVE SHOWS
Clyde & Seamore Take Pirate Island
Fantasmic
Festival of the Lion King
Shamu
(Deleting one live show to get an extra kids' ride)

SPECIAL SHOWS OR WALKTHROUGHS
A Day in the Park with Barney
American Adventure
Impressions de France
The Magic of Disney Animation
T2:3-D

KIDDIE RIDES OR SHOWS
Buzz Lightyear
Cat in the Hat
It's a Small World
One Fish Two Fish Red Fish Blue Fish

KIDDIE PLAY AREAS
Barney's Backyard
Camp Jurassic

RESTAURANTS
Flame Tree Barbecue (need a counter service option)
Mythos
Teppanyaki Dining Room

I have a question for Robert and Kevin. One, the orginal theme parks will still be there right? They aren't going to remove them from Flordia. Two, What would be the point i mean you aren't going to get to do all the rides so just go to the theme parks and do them all. Three, How much is this going to cost each of the three themeparks to built. Fouth, When will it be finished and when will it start. Fifth, Why does Flordia care if the themeparks compete i mean it benefits them in taxes when more people use their rent-a-cars and all that. Sixth, How do you guys feel about this.
Thank you, and please answer nicely, don't put me down.
P.S.
Personally I think it is stupid and will just cost the three theme parks money to a useless idea that will (I think) go bankrupt.

So that Kevin and Robert don't catch you here, my friend, this is a joke! It's just Kevin's creative way of asking what rides from parks in the Orlando area would make your ideal perfect theme park--that's all...

... alright, this was a tough chore and I actually couldn't think of a fifth live action show I'd like to see, so I added a sixth special show to the list... here goes...

10 RIDES
Amazing Adventures of Spiderman
Big Thunder Mountain
Haunted Mansion
Incredible Hulk Rollercoaster
Journey Into Imagination: Figment's Revenge ;-)
Kilimanjaro Safaris
Men In Black: Alien Attack
Space Mountain
Test Track

Carousel of Progress
Cranium Command (Wonders of Life/Epcot)
Terminator 2: 3D

Can we bump up to five restaurants? (I know it's three meals a day, but I want to spread out the "crowds" a little bit. I hate not being able to find a seat!)

If so, I'll add...

Les Chefs de France
Circus McGurkus

...to my list. And in case anyone wonders, I intentionally picked two counter service restaurants, to maintain a balance with the three other sit-downs. I'm not always in the mood (or budget) for a table-service meal.

I thought of doing five restaurants, but the numbers were getting too numerous! But since my #4 and #5 are both IOA restaurants - and I am on record as saying I think Universal is the most consistent with its food quality - I say people can do five if they want. BUT counters, cafeterias and buffets all count.

Also, Will... BGT attractions aren't being allowed. This is an Orlando only park. So if you read this in time, click on yours in the Edit Your Messages box and fix the few BGT things you got. Okay?

Restaurants
4 Mythos
5 Enchanted Oak Tavern
(How I would love to have the Green Eggs and Ham counter here also, maybe less for the food and more for just the look of it!)

It's a JOKE! Why do you feel you have to comment on EVERY thread, regardless of whether you are actually adding anything of worth to the thread? Especially when you don't bother to read the whole thing. For the few people who didn't understand that the idea was a funny way to get people to list their favorite Orlando attractions, someone else SPILLED THE BEANS soon after.

Thanks for joining THREE YEARS LATER! In this time, a new ride, Revenge of the Mummy, would make my list SOMEWHERE, not sure what it would replace, but since Hunchback and Alien Encounter don't exist anymore, and they were both on my list, it can replace both of them! Hey, I'm not the only one that cheated! (And this also doesn't include the numerous new shows throughout Orlando, none of which I have seen yet, nor the upcoming IOA spectacular.)
