Efteling has announced that it will add a 30th scene to its Fairy Tale Forest attraction this fall.
One of the world's most expansive theme park attractions is getting even bigger. Dutch theme park
The Fairy Tale Forest, or Sprookjesbos is the heart of the park, which has won our Theme Park Insider Award as the world's best for the past two years. Designed by park co-founder Anton Pieck, the Fairy Tale Forest opened in 1952 with 10 fairy tales — dioramas depicting scenes from classic children's stories, including The Chinese Nightingale, The Naughty Princess, Sleeping Beauty, The Frog Prince, and Snow White and The Six Servants.
Yeah, Disney changed that one. It's fascinating to walk through the Efteling attraction and see how its more traditional representation of these classic tales differ from versions familiar to Americans who grew up with Disney's adaptations. We toured Sprookjesbos during our visit to the park last Thanksgiving, if you'd like a peek at some of its attractions.
The new fairy tale in the forest will be "The Six Swans," which is moving in between Cinderella and Snow White.
From the park's description:
In the ‘Six Swans’ Fairytale six princes are changed into swans by their jealous stepmother. To break the spell and turn her brothers back into humans, their little sister is tasked with sewing six shirts from asters [Link added - Ed.] and may not speak or laugh for six years.
Once again, it looks like it's up to the women to do all the work in a fairy tale — whether it's casting spells or breaking them. ;-)
