Featuring 750 guest rooms, the Explorers Lodge is founded upon a backstory that reminds me the theme that Disney expressed with its Tiffins restaurant at Disney's Animal Kingdom. From Disney's press release:
Dedicated to the spirit of exploration, the story takes place in the grand era of exploration and tells of four explorers who built a lodge based on their adventures around the world, adding their own artifacts and specimens gathered during their lifetime of travels.
I haven't visited the Hong Kong resort yet, nor stayed at this resort, but that backstory hints at an Adventurer's Club vibe that I'm sure that many Disney fans would welcome in a hotel resort. We'll have to see what fans say once the reviews start coming in on this new hotel.

TweetA nice low rise building in contrast to the high towers in Hong Kong. It surely will be quiet without any traffic or people around the buildings. They are selling 2 night packages. That's not ambitious, but also showing the limitations of the resort. Time to add the second park.
I've been a Disney buff since 1974. I go to WDW twice a year and Disneyland once a year. Also Disneyland Paris. I went to Disney Hong Kong in Feb. MAGICAL. I can't say enough great things about the park, parade, food and setting. Go!
there's a strategy there that may surprise us
I checked it out this morning. Aesthetically, it is the most attractive of the Hong Kong Disney hotels. I am interested to see what is developed in the adjoining plot between the Disney Hotel and the Explorers lodge. If Disney/The HK Government were smart they would add a non-Disney top quality resort hotel in the remaining plot (W/Shangri-la), as this is something Hong along really lacks.
Kungaloosh?

This sounds really cool but it has one major problem. It's at Disney's least popular theme park resort in the world. At least they're not giving up on it. Disney needs to do everything it can to distinguish Hong Kong from Shanghai and Tokyo. The plussed castle and other improvements will help even more, but this is a step in the right direction.
