Symbolica will be Efteling's most expensive attraction development to date. With an estimated cost of US$38 million, Symbolica will be the literal and figurative centerpiece of Efteling's 65th anniversary celebration. Inside, visitors will board six-person ride vehicles for their journey through the "Palace of Fantasy," within which the riders collectively will choose one of three different routes, each offering unique adventures and interactive elements.
Here's is the fifth episode in the park's Web series on "The Making of Symbolica," which reveals the July 1 opening date, as well as providing some interior glimpses at the ride, which remains under construction.
If you'd like to watch the previous episode, here are one through three, and here is the fourth episode. Symbolica will be a trackless dark ride, with a grand finale featuring three ride vehicles "dancing" with each other. It's trick we've seen before in Pooh's Hunny Hunt at Tokyo Disneyland and the Theme Park Insider Award-winning Mystic Manor at Hong Kong Disneyland.
Will Symbolica rank alongside those modern classics, or will it end up being an under-decorated and under-animated ride, such as Motiongate's Hotel Transylvania? Efteling has an excellent track record with its dark rides, so our hopes are high for this new adventure. One way or the other, we'll find out on July 1.
