Midway Mania is notorious among Disney fans for its long waits and relatively hard-to-get Fastpass reservations. Along with Soarin' and the Seven Dwarfs Mine Train, Midway Mania is one of those "must have" advance Fastpass+ reservations at the Walt Disney World Resort, to avoid what's often an hour-plus standby wait, even during moderately busy times in the parks.
Disney announced last year that it would add a third track to the ride, where visitors play a series of carnival-inspired video games featuring the Toy Story characters. Eventually, Midway Mania will become part of Hollywood Studios' new Toy Story Land. Presumably, the attraction's entrance will flip to the far side of its show building to face the new land, which is now under construction.
Currently, groupers are redirecting some visitors down a hall near the Fastpass+ and standby line merge point, toward the new loading station for the third track. The additional track increases the ride's theoretical hourly capacity by 50%, which should reduce standby wait times while allowing Disney to make more Fastpass+ return times available for the ride. Judging from anecdotes from fans in the park yesterday, that's already happening, as wait times have declined to very manageable levels, well under an hour.
TweetThere is a reason why they added a 3rd track and why the stand-by queues are so long. Most people LOVE this ride.
If we are in DHS and strolling by early and the wait is 20/30 mins - rare I know - we would go on it. Anything over that we skip it.
Saying that - it REALLY needed the extra capacity and this is a welcome positive change. I also think when the full new land opens it will take even more pressure off the TSM wait times.
I'll looking forward to hopping on and getting my traditional low score, I play for fun (yeah right!)
Shocker.
