"I received an e-mail from Universal Studios letting me know that they recently sold their millionth Butterbeer. This got me wondering which people would rather have on a hot day.
"I know from recent discussions how passionately many feel about Magic Kingdom's Dole Whip, but it seems that Butterbeer is becoming very popular. I'm sad to say that I haven't tried either one. Each time I planned on having a Dole Whip, I either had my husband pulling me towards a ride, or my children demanding something else.
"So, on with the debate!"
Let's clarify the rules here: A vote for Butterbeer could be for either the regular or frozen version. And a vote for the Dole Whip could stand for either the whip itself, or the float. Okay?

However, I will say this: the Pineapple Dole Float is my absolute favorite dessert. It hits me in all the right places, in all the right ways, and leaves me completely satisfied, but still wanting more. Furthermore, like a previous poster mentioned, I have history with the Dole Float as well as experiences and emotional ties that cannot be matched by the new kid on the block.
My guess is that a butterscotch creme soda flavored beverage, while intriguing, is just not going to do it for me. But I will withhold my vote until I have given Butterbeer a fair chance.
Being a Disney first person generally, it hurts to vote against my favorite park, but I detest, loathe and abominate pineapple.
I have been following this poll thoughout last night and this morning and I am a bit suprised at the current results going. Dole Whip was KILLING, but now, its just a bit ahead. Where all the butterbeer fans asleep or something?
If it's a frozen butterbeer, I'd have to rethink it. But, I still think Dole Whip float!
I want one now!
"Dole Soft Serve Mix is a lactose free dry mix that is reconstituted with tap water and frozen down in a soft serve machine."
"Sugar, Dextrose, Pineapple Juice Concentrate, Coconut Oil**, Stabilizers (Cellulose, Xanthan Gum, Locust Bean, Karaya Gum, Pectin), Maltodextrin, Silicon Dioxide (Anticaking), Corn Syrup Solids, Citric Acid, Sodium Caseinate (A Milk Derivative), Artificial Flavor, Potassium & Sodium Phosphate, Mono & Diglycerides, Artificial Color (Yellow 5 & 6), Soy Lecithin"
Bon Apetit! I'll be enjoying a Butter Beer myself.
Every time I get a Dole Whip, I get the float, and end up enjoying the pineapple juice more than the whip. I finish wishing that I'd just ordered a nice cold cup of pineapple juice instead.
FWIW, I'm among the not-very-vocal majority who prefer the regular Butterbeer to the frozen (Regular beat frozen 53%-47% in previous vote of the week). One Butterbeer with an order of Three Broomsticks fish n' chips, and I'm in a very happy place.
I am guessing the ingredient list for Butterbeer (which Universal has not released) is something like this:
Carbonated water, corn syrup, high fructose corn syrup, sodium benzoate (preservative), natural and artificial flavors, caramel color, citric acid, vanilla extract, caffeine, nonfat milk, fructose, corn starch-modified, whey protein concentrate (from milk), salt, potassium sorbate (preservative), polysorbate 60, sodium citrate, disodium phosphate, yellow 5, yellow 6, and, of course, butter.
And I really don't want to know what goes into making that froth!
A cool glass of Butterbeer from the Hog's Head is to die for on any day.
It's much easier to drink than a Dole Whip or float is to try to eat, as the icecream melts away so quick and creates such a mess.
If we're not talking about a hot summer day, but a warm spring/fall day, then the Dole Whip would be my choice =)
Butterbeer, 1 serving (14oz): 200 Calories
Dole Whip (pineapple), 1 serving (1cup/8oz): 160 Calories
Not sure about the Dole Pineapple Float, or the froth on the Butterbeer.
At any rate, when comparing servings, the Dole Whip is the lighter alternative. However, all things equal, a Dole Whip has about six more calories per ounce than a Butterbeer.
Ultimately, neither dessert should be purchased for its nutritional value which is essentially zero.
Don't get me wrong - the Dole Whip was still tasty, but not nearly as good as the hype would suggest.
Universal, please feel welcomed to steal this idea for the Harry Potter Christmas celebration. :^)
But I'm headed there Monday to allow the Cast to redeem themselves. ;-)

Nothing is better than Dole Whip. They brought it to the festival of the west in AZ (don't ask!) and my AZ friend now wants to get into his car and drive to Disneyland.
There is nothing on earth as good as Dole Whip.
