Nickelodeon New Orleans theme park misses key deadline

I appreciate Southern Star's never-say-die attitude to this whole project over the past years. But hoping, wanting, and wishing are not doing.

October 28, 2009 at 2:19 PM · If I came up with a Top 5 list of places in the US that I would probably NOT put a Nickelodeon themed park (that is if I were making decisions for the Nickelodeon company), I'd say New Orleans would be on that list..... and it might even be at the top. They need to rethink this.

I agree this is a bad place for a Nick theme park. There should be a Nick theme park, but Louisiana probably isn't the best place..

October 28, 2009 at 7:23 PM · why would anyony say thats a bad place for a them park,why not have a them park there and if your scared to visit because of what you or anyone you know think you know about new orleans your dead wrong its a grest place for a them park see i know what nickeloden know its tourism heaven in new orleans.

October 29, 2009 at 8:12 AM · What (broken) logic gives New Orleans, a city of 300,000 or so, a theme park, when Houston, a city of more than 4,000,000 has nothing? Doesn't really make sense to me. Of course, I'm still sore at Six Flags for selling the park we had here, albeit small, and seeing the land sit empty with absolutely nothing there after more than 4 years now!

October 29, 2009 at 9:16 AM · From what I'v gathered the Southern Star representative did not show up to an official political meeting (or a really important meeting). You may know how to do something, but if you don't show up then you might as well be a bum on the side of the road beggin for change. Even if you aren't completly prepared you still have to show up. I was really excited to see somehting like this come down to southern Louisiana and I hope there is a (true) legitamte reason why this played out this way. Anyway, I think it's still a cool idea.

October 30, 2009 at 2:19 PM · Question arise regarding the entire deal but on the inside the political problems are the cause. It is a viable and worthy effort that southern star is trying to do, but, w/o proper funds of their own resistance to be pushed aside from those who do have is large. If interior politics take this down, it's a shame. Sure no one wants to see their vision taken over, but there is a time to let go and reap your rewards and let other take the reins instead of loosing a complete effort. Ego had taken many a project and flushed it down the toilet. Lets hope sanity reins here and all involved come to their senses and let the park go through. City has approved it, the Fema people would approve it due to saftey that will be in place, all the vendors and designs are ready let it go and grow!

November 2, 2009 at 7:47 PM · Why doesn't everyone jsut lighten up a bit and try being optomistic for a change....LIFE JUST AIN'T THAT SERIOUS!!! And having parks like this is just the escape that people do look for. Even though New Orleans is mostly recognized as an adult and party scene, maybe this will help get the city back on track and help make it a more family oriented place to visit. I think lots of families would want to incorporate the Audobon Zoo and The Aquarium and Imax with the park and if done right, including cutting edge coasters and a top of the line water park will make the difference in the world. We in New Orleans are looking forward to having SouthernStar Amusement and their partners come and help bring jobs and an entertainment venue for locals and tourists alike. I don't think that this deadline is something to sweat...we have waited this long and will just remain hopeful and lookforward to seeing the progress. Thanks SouthernStar Amusement. To all the skeptics, just come and visit when the park is over so I can say "I told you so!"
